PL 2011 Short Course 7th Margaret Gardner Memorial Meet (Level 4), Plymouth

Margaret Gardner was one of Plymouth Leander's most respected and loyal coaches. In her memory, we run a friendly invitational meet at Plymouth College each year, which, for PL athletes, doubles as their Club Championships for that particular season. As Margaret's work stretched way beyond her important role within PL, including reaching thousands of children in both Devon and Cornwall during her many years on pool deck, we invite clubs from these counties to race alongside us and celebrate her life.

The meet is held over one weekend at the Plymouth College Pool and this year's meet will run Saturday 17th September - Sunday 18th September 2011. A full Olympic programme is offered (minus 800m and 1500m Freestyle) plus 50m form stroke events.

The MG Meet follows a License 4 concept. National qualifiers will not be competing due to the calendar timing of the competition, allowing swimmers of all other abilities to have an opportunity to qualify for the 2012 Devon and Cornwall County Championships prior to Christmas.

Also this year Session 1 will be used as time trials for participation in 2012 National Swimming League. All
swimmers who wish to form part of Plymouth Leander’s team and whose club has agreed to the
Swim21 Network Clubs Memorandum of Understanding are welcome to take part.

An inexpensive entry fee of £2.50 per individual event or £12.00 to enter any number of individual events (£8.00 if under 9 years old) within respective age groups ensures that developing athletes are able to experiment across a range of events in a non-pressured and friendly environment.

You can download a meet entry pack which includes entry details, the programme of events, entry forms and conditions here:

Underlined with an incredible 25 medals (12 gold, 10 silver & 3 bronze) at the six-day meet at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield, PL were to beat the next British Club (City of Leeds) by well over 100 points, with the Canadian guest team from Alberta still trailing some 60 points in the Leander wake.

You want to know where those 25 medals came from right?....
